Piskies Ahoy!

Sweep woke up to the dulcet tones of Auntie Angela telling the cubs how many croissants they could each have, and how many they had to leave for Uncle Bill. Uncle Bill stirred as well as the smell of coffee and croissants gently massaged his nostrils. "What a lovely image", thought Sweep.

Sweep wriggled out of his sleeping bag and had some coffee and croissants as well, then everyone got their showers and put on their best going-out-for-the-day underwear, and got dressed. Then everyone climbed into the car and they set off for Polperro, where Uncle Bill used to run a branch of Vickers (at least that's what Sweep thought he said).

The drive to Polperro was quite long, and took them through even more of the nothing than they'd seen up to now. Sweep spent the journey thinking about nothing and how pretty it was. Eventually, they wound their way down the hill to Polperro, and found a space in the car park. Sweep was very excited, his adventure for today was about to begin!

The first thing they had to do, Auntie Angela said, was to go and have lunch. There was a nice restaurant where their friend Beckie and Beckie's Mum and sister were all working, and they'd promised to keep a table ready for Sweep and the others. So they walked down the road, and passed an interesting boat along the way...

Sweep thought it was amazing that even the florists here delivered by boat, but that it was a shame this one had obviously missed the tide. "Oh well", thought Sweep, "at least while it's stranded here, it makes the village look pretty".

He wasn't sure about the milk float pretending to be a tram though - Sweep thought perhaps that was part of an MI5 training programme about blending in, but they still had a bit to learn.

Auntie Angela said they should get a move on, and so they carried on to the restaurant, where their friend Beckie was waiting for them with their table all ready.

She brought them some lovely lunches, and some of the local apple pop. Sweep thought that sounded very nice, so he tried some.

He liked it so much, that he tried some more...

and then he had to have a little nap.

Sweep hadn't realised that this was powerful pop. He had a snooze though, and was soon awake again and demanding to go further into the village to see what else they could find. So off they went, and pretty soon, they found themselves at the harbour. Sweep was excited to see the boats, and the lovely buildings, and the Big Blue Wet Thing was there as well to say hello. "Fancy coming all the way from Tintagel to meet us here", thought Sweep. "The Big Blue Wet Thing really is very friendly".

After they'd walked around for a while, it was time to go and meet up with some more of their friends in a pub where Uncle Bill used to have ever so important meetings. They saw lots of old friends, and they all had a walk to the village green to see the big cross that Uncle Bill blessed for the millennium.

Sweep thought it was a lovely cross, but they must have got the name wrong, because it didn't look anything like that bridge in Gateshead.

After more wandering around, meeting old friends and having some more of the special local pop, Auntie Angela announced that it was time to go and meet Beckie again - she was finished work and could sit and have a chat with her family as well. So they all went to the Crumplehorn.

Sweep thought it was a lovely place, but wasn't sure why they'd named it after such an obviously painful condition. It made his eyes water just to think about it. But he soon forgot about that when Beckie and her boys Logan and Morgan arrived, and they all played together nice and calmly and quietly - it seemed that no-one around even realised they were there. Then Beckie's little girl Tegan arrived, with their dad Paul, and everyone enjoyed a relaxing time together, as the children took it in turns to ask their mummy if there was anything they could do to help her relax even more - they were such model children.

Sweep was in the middle of this lovely dream when he was woken up by the boys making piggy noises in his ears, and running off laughing. "What larks they do 'ave", thought Sweep, "the delightful little rascals". And he hid in Uncle Bill's backpack.

After spending a nice time with Beckie and her family, it was time to leave. Sweep had found some more of the special local pop in Uncle Bill's backpack - he'd bought it for presents, but Sweep would have to tell Uncle Bill tomorrow that it had all gone. Mysteriously. Sweep thought "I wonder (hic) if Uncle Bill will (hic) be able to find out (hic) where it's all gone (hic)" - but that would wait for later.

Sweep took one last look out of the backpack at the wonderful sunset sky, and then it was hugs and cuddles all round before they had to go back to the car and let Uncle Bill drive them home - since he was the only one that hadn't been over-indulging on the local pop front. Sweep drifted off to sleep as the car whisked him back to the campsite. He'd had a lovely day.

He had a feeling he might need the loo though.

And maybe some Alka-Seltzer in the morning...
